PARK STREET CHURCH
Church built in 1809 by the English architect Peter Banner which is only open to the public in the summer in Boston
The church was built in 1809 by English architect Peter Banner. Today, it stands in the heart of Downtown, identifiable by its white, pointed steeple. It was here, in 1829, that William Lloyd Garrison, abolitionist and editor of the Liberator newspaper, gave his first public speech against slavery. The church is only open to the public in summer, but during the rest of the year it is possible to attend Sunday services. Park Street Church is not far from the Granary Burying Ground and is also part of the Freedom Trail.
