CHARLESTOWN NAVY YARD
The first warship to come out of the Charlestown Yard and the oldest in the world still afloat in Boston.
Better known as the Boston Navy Yard, the city's shipyard was founded in 1800. Until 1974, it was the repair and supply yard for US Navy ships. Between 1794 and 1797, the USS Constitution was built here, the first warship to leave the Charlestown Yard and the oldest still afloat in the world. The ship is still there today and can be visited. At the Visitor Center, a short film about the Battle of Bunker Hill is shown regularly throughout the day.
