FIRE HOSE CART HOUSE
Carte House which houses fire wagons dating back to the 19th century in Nantucket.
This barn was built forty years after the great fire that devastated Nantucket in 1846. It is a cart house, a building where horse-drawn carts were parked. Recently restored, it houses fire wagons dating back to the 19th century. Some of the objects and equipment associated with the great fire of 1846 can be admired. In particular, you will see the fire hoses and hand pumps of the time. Also worth seeing is the small interactive exhibit on fires and firefighting in Nantucket.
