African Meeting House
Museum that served as a school and church for the island's segregated black population on Nantucket.
The museum gives you the only remaining building that sheltered the Afro-American population of Nantucket in the th century. Around the 1820 s, the house was used as a school, a church for the black population of the island that underwent segregation. At the beginning of the museum, you will be able to follow the Black Heritage Trail, which has nine points of interest on the island. This house, as well as the memorial trail, depend on the Museum of African-American History to maintain the legacy of the African-American community in New England.
