EAST CHOP LIGHTHOUSE
Lighthouse located atop a cliff overlooking Vineyard Haven and a historic site since 1987.
Built in 1878, this lighthouse is located at the top of a cliff overlooking Vineyard Haven Harbour. It became obsolete a century after its construction and was narrowly saved from destruction, as were Gay Head Light and Edgartown Harbor Light. The lighthouse is open to the public only in summer, when the sun sets and the horizon is shaded in pink. The MVTA bus line 13 drops passengers at the bottom of the hill, and it is a 15-minute walk to the lighthouse. The lighthouse has been a historic site since 1987.
