WEST CHOP LIGHT
An eight-meter lighthouse built in 1817 and still in operation that can be seen from the road in Vineyard Haven
In total, Martha's Vineyard has five lighthouses. This is the only one in the town of Vineyard Haven. It is almost eight metres long and since its construction in 1817, it has been relocated twice due to cliff erosion, in 1830 and 1846. It is still in operation and the Menemsha Coast Guard has moved into the adjacent houses, so it is impossible to visit it. However, it can be seen from the road and when on the ferries to Martha's Vineyard.
