MARTHA'S VINEYARD MUSEUM
Museum that traces the history of the island with portraits, furniture, objects of the Wampanoag Indian tribe
Once housed in Edgartown's Thomas Cooke House, the museum recently moved to Vineyard Haven due to a lack of space in the historic house to display its 17,000 or so objects. After several years of renovation and transition, the Martha's Vineyard Museum reopened in early 2019 in a building that once housed a hospital. The history of the island is recounted here, with portraits, furniture, objects from the Wampanoag Indian tribe, etc. There are also temporary exhibitions and art installations outside.
