INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT
Triumphal arch in Phnom Penh built at the request of Prince Norodom Sihanouk to celebrate his country's independence.
This triumphal arch was designed in 1958 by the Khmer architect Van Molyvann at the request of Prince Norodom Sihanouk, in order to celebrate the regained independence of his country. It was inaugurated in 1962. In the shape of a lotus, it recalls the Angkorian style for which the country is famous. Located in the middle of the main boulevard Norodom, it is an unmissable landmark in town. You cannot visit the interior, but you can take pictures of it from all angles from the promenade next to it.
