RAILWAY STATION
Railway station in Phnom Penh, built in the early 1930s and distinguished by its Art Deco architecture.
The peaceful Phnom Penh train station was built in the early 1930s. It is worth visiting for its Art Deco architecture that echoes the central market in the same style. After its construction, the country's first railroad connected the capital with Battambang. During the civil war, the station and the railroad were almost completely abandoned. Since 2016, passenger traffic is timidly resuming, with a line once again serving Battambang and Poipet at the Thai border, and southward to Sihanoukville and Kampot.
