This market has changed its name several times: Phsar Kranat (fabric market) during the Protectorate, then Phsar Thom during the Sangkum. During the Pol Pot regime, it was used as a rice granary. During the Vietnamese period, it began to serve as a warehouse for food and salt. In 1989, the eastern part became a "meeting" market (Phsar Nat) where agricultural services offered their products. Later the western part was divided into small private stores.
