Inaugurated in 1736 (construction began in 1693), this church dedicated to San Carlos Borromeo was, after numerous renovations, consecrated as a cathedral in 1912, thus earning its current nickname of Catedral de Matanzas. Its architecture, inspired by Spanish Romanticism, is considered a good example of Cuban eclecticism of the 19th century, which combines different neoclassical and baroque elements. Some frescoes inside.
