ESTUDIO - TALLER MARTHA JIMENEZ PEREZ
This studio, open to the street, houses the work of Martha Jiménez Pérez, now 70 years old. The artist from Camagüey was honored by UNESCO for her ceramic work in 1997. Her work consists essentially of modelling the clay to her liking to create statuettes with such particular expressions. Her way of using light and colors contributes greatly to the success of her works mixing the warmth of the Caribbean with that of man. Also adept at using bronze, she likes to represent female figures as well as fish in this material. Plates, vases and paintings are also exhibited in the studio. It is also worth noting that in 2005 the city of Camagüey entrusted her with the design of the Plaza del Carmen. And this was another success for Martha. In this plaza, located next to her studio, you can see her bronze statues that represent historical figures of the city or imaginary figures such as the now locally famous "celestial gossips" who are sitting around gossiping... If you sit on the free chair and ask them to grant a wish, your wish will come true. This superstition, created by Martha Jiménez Pérez, is a way to involve passers-by in this work of art. And after all, why not try it? It doesn't cost anything!
