Jesús Suarez Gayol (1936-1967), a native of the region, took an active part in opposition movements against Batista from his youth. In 1955, he set up the July 26 Movement in Camagüey and joined the Castro guerrillas. After victory in 1959, he was appointed Vice-Minister of Sugar, but followed Che in 1965, at whose side he was executed in Bolivia in 1967. On display are photos, documents and accounts of the student struggles against the Batista dictatorship.
