This rustic cottage hotel is located in a large property of over 100 hectares, in the middle of the primary forest and its century-old trees. Many activities: Poás volcano, waterfall La Paz, río, canopy, rafting…

I stayed with my husband for 2 nights, which allowed us to try different things from the restaurant (Cencerros) menu as well.
Getting there: This is a hidden gem at only ~40min drive from Juan Santamaría Airport, so if you’re looking for a nice place to stay before you take a return flight or similar, this is great. The road is all paved and in very good conditions till the Hotel. You can also use public transportation (bus) and then take a Uber or a taxi for the final part of the trip if needed.
Weather: We looked for a place away from the terrible heat in Alajuela downtown, this place is perfect, it ranges from ~ 24C - 74F to 15C - 59F in a ‘normal’ rainy season. It’s usually sunny and hot in the morning, being around 10am and noon the hottest time of the day , then it starts cooling down, some fog can show up, and then rain if it’s the season for it. Nights are fresh and amazing for a good sleep and recover from stress.
Property: This is definitely the most relevant aspect of this place, you can walk along a very well maintained path inside the property where you can watch the surroundings (the volcano, cows over here over there, beautiful mountains, a lot of nature, birds etc) It’s a 5-6K (3-4 miles) circuit that takes you from the hotel rooms all around the property, it has ups and downs on the way, you may actually get a bit sweaty if you walk fast. Get your hiking shoes, comfortable clothes on and some water, absolutely do not forget your SPF. Garden is so well kept and taken care of, it looks beautiful and clean.
Rooms and amenities: Super clean, well maintained rooms, quiet place, good for sleeping and just relax and chill out. If you choose the Jr Suite you will have a small terrace from where you can simply watch the rain and/or the mountains around. You open the glass doors when you wake up in the morning and that will be a great relaxing view from your bed. Rooms are pretty good equipped, some will have a small fridge and coffee maker as well. The only thing that I can point out about rooms is you could hear your ‘neighbors’ talking in the Jr Suites as the material of the cabins on the second floor do not isolate noisy pretty well, it’s basically made of wood ceiling with thin walls, but from the first floor that’s not a problem. You will spend a lot of time sitting on the chairs in the terrace if you choose that room, so some cushions would be great as the plastic material can get uncomfortable after a while there…
Restaurant: I will leave some images here as well but the menu is pretty nice, simple and straightforward, you can go on the affordable way if you want, or also go up and spend a bit more if you are willing to, they have options for all budgets. Coffee is great quality, do not miss the little bag they give you in the room, it’s great coffee (and I’m a good coffee drinker). Desserts are a must (the pecan pie is like any other I had tasted before, the texture is different and makes it unique). They also have nice ‘artisan’ beers, good quality as well. Meat was well cooked and tasty, and all fried things were fresh and crunchy every time. Breakfast was the best part, recommend the “Huevos toreados”, amazing. All served in good-sized portions.
Conclusion: 100% recommended if you want to scape for a weekend and have somewhere to go for a nice walk or even run. The restaurant is great for having breakfast if you do not want to cook some day… Staff is amazing, so kind and patient and always willing to assist you. The whole area of Vara Blanca and Poasito is beautiful, you can move around if you like, no need to stay there all day definitely but if you wish just rest, this is an amazing place for that.
Will definitely return!
