CONVENTO DE SAN JERÓNIMO
Convent ruins with a garden featuring a period fountain and surrounded by rock walls, from which the Volcán de Agua can be seen.
Initiated by the Order of La Merced as a college, construction began in 1739 and was completed in 1757. The problem: in the absence of an official building permit, the school was closed in 1761 by King Charles III. Multiple earthquakes had taken their toll on the building, and some of its remains were used for other monuments. Today, the ruins boast a superb garden with a beautiful period fountain, surrounded by thick rock walls with the majestic Volcán de Agua in the background.
