CASA POPENŒ
It bears the name of Wilson Popenœ, a doctor of his state, who in the early 1930 s acquired it for a paltry sum while it was only ruins. Built in the first half of the 1636 th century, in, it belonged to one of the large aristocratic families in Antigua, that of Don Luis of las Princesses Mendoza, a Spanish Crown officer serving in Antigua. In 1773, like many of the neighbouring houses, it was completely destroyed and left in the state for about two hundred and sixty years. The result of a long and rigorous restoration work, it is now one of the finest colonial remains in Antigua. The interior houses a rich collection of vintage objects. You will be interested in a few antique furniture and paintings representing, among others, Bishop Francisco Maroquín and Pedro de Alvarado, as well as surprising cuisine, reconstituted with the utmost rigour.
