MUSEO POPOL VUH
Museum with a collection dedicated to pre-Hispanic art and a permanent collection of art from the colonial period.
Named after the Popol Vuh, a kind of "Bible " of the Maya, the museum has two distinct collections, in addition to its temporary exhibitions. The first, dedicated to pre-Hispanic art, contains vases and sculptures from the Preclassic period as well as objects from the Postclassic period. The second permanent collection focuses on the art of the colonial period, which extends from the arrival of the conquistadors in 1524 to the Independence of 1821. Among other things, there are pieces related to the Catholic religion, such as silver crosses and statuettes of the Virgin Mary.
