CENTRAL PARK

Former parade ground featuring a relief map of the department and Huehuetenango's main buildings.
Without any real charm, this old parade ground built in the 17th century is home to a relief map of the department dating back to 1846; a real local pride. Naturally, the Parque Central is framed by the main buildings of Huehuetenango. For example, on its eastern side, there is a large building with arcades: the "Gobernación departamental", or the prefecture. A place of socialization, the plaza is also the scene of the parade of villagers who come down from the communities of the Sierra de Los Cuchumatanes to solve an administrative problem.
