QUETZALTREKKERS
Since 1995, this agency has been fully managed by a network of volunteers (usually travellers who stay there for a few months). The funds collected thus go to a "street school" which allows street children of the city to be integrated into a learning structure. The steps have a minimum duration of 2 days: the programme, the ascent of the Tajumulco volcano, the ascent of the Santiaguito (the most active part of the country but covered in snow), or the magnificent hike linking Quetzaltenango to Atitlán Lake: 3 days of effort (2nd day: 10 hours walk!) before cool down in the lake in San Pedro. The most adventurous trek, however, remains that which goes from Nebaj to Todos Santos in 6 days, along the ridges and valleys of the Cuchumatanes mountains. For the nights of full moon in Santa María, you will not be the only ones to have had this good idea (50 to 500 tourists depending on the season!). Food, guide, equipment and transportation provided. Take hot business more. Also climbing (rock climbing) for one day half an hour from the city.
Quetzaltrekkers is also constantly seeking volunteers to guide groups, welcome or administer at the office, 3 months minimum, entirely volunteer.
