This non-profit organization, Proyecto Ecológico Quetzal, aims to protect from deforestation the «cloud forest» of Caquipec, Yalijux and Chamá, niche's nest, the symbol bird of the Maya. Ecoquetzal's activity integrates Mayan populations with a sustainable development perspective, promoting community tourism, crafts and responsible use of natural resources. The faunistique and floristic richness of the places and the passion of the people taking part in the project make each trek exciting, and actively helps the community's ecological and economic development.
