This good canteen is the ideal address to discover the traditional cuisine of the region. Among the specialties: the kaq'ik, a dish of Mayan origin and typical of Alta Verapaz. Also called caldo colorado de pavo - or turkey casserole - it has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by the ministry in charge. El Peñascal also stands out for its lomito with cardamom sauce, which came third in a national gastronomic festival. The room is equipped with screens, so locals flock to it especially on soccer match days.
