Chiquimula's original church features impressive ruins with columns and arches still standing.
Nicknamed "Iglesia Vieja" by the locals, it is the original church of Chiquimula, built in the early 17th century and considered the oldest in the region. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1765, it was supported by 14 external pillars, seven on each side, which ran along the nave. Behind a beautiful and imposing facade, it has absolutely impressive ruins, between columns and arches still standing, among which nature is slowly taking over.
