With its black sand of volcanic origin, the beach of Monterrico is not exactly like imagine a lost Pacific beach at the end of the world. There are no tortueux or coconut trees here (they were washed up long ago by a storm) along the sandy cord, and not with turquoise water in which multicolores fish are swimming from corals.

The sand is black, the waves are violent and the difference is brutal since, at the end of 5 to 6 m, the bathers have no foot. When the wind rises, the waves become real waves that come crashing on the shore (they break too close to the edge unfortunately for surfers).

A wave violence must add the current to which it is difficult to resist and which leads you to the wide. Despite the pressing recommendations of the various hotels to their customers, in addition to the signs preventing danger, you have to take a reckless water from almost every weekend, when it is not too late. The hotel directorates have teamed up to pay a beach supervisor to guarantee, on Saturday and Sunday, a security for the many bathers in the last few days.
