In Quito, the commemorations of this battle which signed the independence of the country make the beautiful part with parades in music.
In Quito. Commemoration of the Battle of Pichincha, fought on May 24, 1822 as part of the South American Wars of Independence. It pitted an army of independence patriots commanded by Antonio José de Sucre against a Spanish royalist army led by Melchor de Aymerich. The defeat of the royalists led to the liberation of Quito, and ensured the independence of the former provinces of the Real Audiencia de Quito, a Spanish colonial administrative jurisdiction that would later become the Republic of Ecuador.
