CANTUÑA CAPILLA
Chapel on the side of the San Francisco church, in the heart of the historic center
The chapel is located on the side of the church of San Francisco, in the heart of the historic centre. Cantuña is the Indian who finished the construction of the church after making a pact with the devil. The chapel dedicated to him is beautifully decorated and has a sumptuous altar, the masterpiece of the sculptor Bernardo de Legarda (1700-1773). The artist carved columns, panels, frieze, cornice, arches, and ornamental elements of breathtaking beauty. The pulpit carved from wood covered with gold leaf also appears to be the work of Legarda.
