Away from the city center, at the foot of the Panecillo, this monument is certainly one of the most beautiful sights in colonial Quito. It's best to get there by cab for safety reasons, as the area is not the quietest in the city. The monastery is in perfect condition (it was renovated with the help of the Banco Central). It's worth visiting in its entirety, not forgetting the chapels. The convent was founded in 1597 by the Franciscans as a retreat monastery. Construction was completed in the early 17th century.
