SANTUARIO DE GUÁPULO
Sanctuary designed by Franciscan architect Fray Antonio Rodriguez in the second half of the century
A colonial construction where the representation of Our Lady of Guápulo, sculpted by Diego de Robles, is located. The sanctuary was designed by the Franciscan architect Fray Antonio Rodriguez in the second half of the 17th century. The façade is in neoclassical style; the interior has remained intact despite the destruction of the altarpieces sculpted by Cristóbal Gualoto and Juan Bautista Menacho, the latter being the creator of the lectern, an exceptional piece. In May the sanctuary is open all day for the faithful to honour Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
