Museum with a permanent exhibition on the archaeology, ethnology, arts, fauna and flora of Amazonia

Next to the Abya-Yala bookstore is the museum of the same name, offering a permanent exhibition on archaeology, ethnology, arts, fauna and flora of the Amazon. A rich collection of objects, body ornaments informs us about the customs of the different ethnic groups, Shuar, Achuar, Huaorani, Cofán... Scenes of their daily life are reconstructed. Abya-Yala is the only museum in Quito that is allowed to exhibit real shrunken heads of the Shuar (or Jivaros) people. The visit is accompanied by traditional Amazonian music and sounds.
