This museum is an integral part of the House of Ecuadorian Culture, which was inaugurated under the presidency of José María Velasco Ibarra in August 1944. In this beautiful colonial house dating from the 18th century, with an interior patio and fountain, one discovers altarpieces, sculptures and paintings from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. One room is devoted to remarkable religious miniatures. This museum contains the artistic treasures of the national heritage. In total, there are ten permanent exhibition rooms and two rooms for temporary exhibitions.
