A charming, well-restored square whose theater is one of the capital's cultural highlights
This charming, well-restored square has a small fountain in its centre. The façade of the theatre, built in 1878, is of rare elegance, exploding in the evening when illuminated. The theatre itself reopened in 2004 and is one of the capital's cultural highlights. Before being a place of culture, the place was a butcher's hall and used to host bullfights every Saturday. Gabriel Garcia Moreno decided to ban them in 1867 and built the theatre we know today.
