The indigenous sun festival, at the time of the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere, a very important day for the Quichua.
The festivities in honour of the Sun God take place at the time of the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere in the province of Imbabura and are concentrated in the city of Otavalo. Indigenous communities in traditional dress occupy the main square to symbolize their revolt against the colonists. To initiate this ceremony, rituals are carried out to honor the elements that helped the good harvest of the year: earth, fire, water, wind. On the day of the solstice, a ritual bath is taken in Peguche. A date not to be missed for the Ecuadorians!
