Sanctuary with octagonal tower, stone base and brick arches and columns
Built after the Imbabura earthquake in 1868 and completed in 1890, it was declared a national shrine by John XXIII in 1963. The sanctuary has an octagonal tower, a stone base and brick arches and columns, sober in its construction, austere in its lines, beautiful in the balance of its proportions of four floors that end gracefully with a dome crowned with eight windows, in which appears a beautiful iron cross.
