AHUANA
The Ahuana association promotes the creation of community projects
The association Ahuana ("weaving" in Quichua) promotes the creation of community projects. Located in the province of Chimborazo, the "parroquita de Calpi" groups together 17 indigenous communities living at an altitude of between 2,800 and 3,400 metres. This project, initiated by the 80 women of the association "Quilla Pacari" ("the awakening of the moon") of the village of San Francisco de Cunuguachay and developed by Father Van Dorpe, aims at developing the traditional economy and intercultural exchange. We strongly invite you to stay in this community!
You will become familiar with the local way of life by participating in the daily tasks. Under the watchful eye of Father Van Dorpe, the "Quilla Pacari" welcomes tourists in two dormitories of 6 or 4 beds arranged in the greatest comfort with a common bathroom (hot water) and a collective lounge. Next to the dormitories, there are chozas (typical houses) available for visitors. Among the activities planned: visit to the Lama Museum, La Moya and other surrounding villages with a native guide. The excursion to the mirador de las Crestas to have a view of the Chimborazo, Tungurahua and el Altar volcanoes is also a must. You can also visit an old renovated hacienda in Palacio Real, dedicated to indigenous history and culture, and why not enjoy cultural walks accompanied by llamas. The members of the community have been trained as guides and are very competent. A project worth supporting!
