Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca, as it is called, celebrates its independence on November 3rd, with a beautiful fireworks display.
A few weeks after Guayaquil proclaimed its independence on October 3, 1820, numerous uprisings took place in the country and the city of Cuenca, inspired by its neighbors, declared its independence on November 3, 1820. This independence is nowadays celebrated by various cultural, artistic and institutional events, such as ferias, concerts and parades. The most famous event for which Ecuadorians travel from far and wide is the fireworks display, known as "noche cuencana", the night of Cuenca. Remember to book your accommodation!
