El Barranco is the natural geographical separation between the historic city center and the modern residential area
The barranco (literally "the ravine") of the Tomebamba river runs from the Otorongo to the Vergel, and constitutes the natural geographical separation between the historical center of the city and the modern residential area. The houses built along this emblematic tourist walkway are, for the most part, the private homes of wealthy Cuenca families. It's nice to come here at the end of the afternoon and enjoy the coolness of the river while walking in this natural area in the heart of the city.
