IGLESIA DE SAN FRANCISCO
Church with classical elements overlooking the lively plaza San Francisco
It is the third church to be built in Guayaquil, and its original foundation dates from the beginning of the 17th century. It was rebuilt in 1663, together with a convent that was destroyed by fire fifteen years later. It went through other periods of destruction and reconstruction, notably in 1687 due to a fire. The Franciscans started building it again in 1710. The present church dates from 1932 and contains elements of classical style, both inside and out. It overlooks a beautiful and lively plaza, the Plaza San Francisco.
