HEMICICLO DE LA ROTONDA
This monument immortalizes the historic meeting between Simón Bolívar and San Martín, who together liberated Latin America
In the center of the Malecón, the monument immortalizes the historic meeting of July 26 and 25, 1822 between Simón Bolívar and San Martín, who together liberated Latin America. This meeting, whose purpose was to reflect on the future of a liberated America, resulted in the annexation of Guayaquil (and Ecuador) to the Great Colombia, Bolívar's ambitious project. Nevertheless, the city of Guayaquil and its province were the first to free themselves from the Spanish Crown on October 9, 1820, proclaiming themselves independent with an army of 1,500 soldiers.
