Historic park in the center of the city to discover Ecuador's flora and fauna
The historical park of Guayaquil is a very pleasant recreational space in the center of the city. It was inaugurated at the end of 1999 and extends over 8 hectares. It allows you to discover the Ecuadorian fauna and flora, especially the one that populated the area where the city was developed. Alligators, tapirs, monkeys, deer, aquatic and terrestrial birds are there. The park is divided into 3 zones: the wild life, the traditions and finally the urbanization and the architecture. In the first zone, you follow a path along a raised wooden walkway: the animals are not in cages, but in the open air in their natural environment. The idea was to simulate wild life as it was before the city appeared. Veterinarians and biologists work in unison to safeguard endemic species in danger of extinction, by encouraging their reproduction within the park. The second part of the visit is of a purely historical nature: reconstruction of colonial houses from materials recovered from some of the houses of the time (most of which disappeared in fires), a rural house made of sugar cane (with farm animals) which adjoins a hacienda. Last part of the parque histórico, a walk punctuated with pretty small gardens with precise themes: medicinal plants, vegetable gardens with the vegetables of the coast, flowers... Overall, this park-museum is a real success, both educational and aesthetic.
