Malecón Puerto Bolívar is mainly devoted to banana and shrimp exports
Mainly devoted to the export of bananas (80% of the national production) and shrimp, the port of Machala, or Malecón Puerto Bolívar, is worth a visit for its extremely local facet. There are few tourists here, mostly Ecuadorians who work here or come here at weekends. The waterfront is lined with restaurants where you can enjoy ceviche and seafood specialties. The Malecón is lined with a continuous parade of cars and is very lively at weekends, with Latin music playing in the background. It is the departure point for the Jambelí archipelago.
