WHITE AGUA
Village home to a museum displaying a modest collection of artifacts dating back to the Manteña civilization
This small indigenous village owes its name to the sulphurous water source that hides there and is a very interesting archaeological site from the Manteña period. The community of Agua Blanca can be reached by a trail that requires about 45 minutes of walking (beware of sunburn!) or 15 minutes by car, beyond the park entrance. In the community village of Agua Blanca, official guides offer their services for a few dollars (tips welcome). The tour takes about 2 hours. Alternatively, a 5-hour excursion can be made to San Sebastián, where a basic shelter is available to visitors. The excursion can also be done on horseback.
A small archaeological museum presents a modest collection of pieces dating from the Manteña civilization, found in the surroundings: weapons, jewels, urns... Worth a look anyway!
The archaeological site containing the ruins of the Manteña civilization (or Manta, dating from 800 to 1532) is discovered 1 km from the hamlet. You can see the location of imposing buildings whose stones are still visible on the surface of the ground. During the excursion, you will observe the surroundings from a viewpoint and dive into a sulphurous water lagoon; nothing better to relax before setting off again.
It isalso possible to discover the surroundings of the village and go to the sulphurous lagoon without a guide, on foot through the small paths. On the way back to the village, you will easily find a place to have lunch, the families are used to it and are very welcoming.
