AÉROPORT ELOY ALFARO
This airport, also known as Base Aérienne Eloy Alfaro, is both civilian and military. It was inaugurated in 1978 by the Ecuadorian Air Force and is the country's fourth busiest airport. Between 1999 and 2009, it also served as a base for the US Air Force in the fight against drug traffickers. Following the 2016 earthquake, the terminal building was destroyed and airport services are currently provided from temporary structures. Construction of a new terminal is scheduled to begin in late 2017. Avianca Ecuador and TAME airlines operate flights from this airport, notably to Quito.
