Protestant mission founded in 1842 by American reverends from Boston, Massachusetts
A few blocks from the Repère Christian bookshop. This Protestant mission was founded in 1842 by American reverends from Boston, Massachusetts. On the right bank of the Gabon estuary, they chose a site where slave barracks once stood, hence the name Baraka. Initially Protestant, it came under the aegis of the Paris Evangelical Society in 1894, and was home to Gabon's first school, where English was taught for a long time.
