MONASTERY OF THE CLARISSE SISTERS AND MISSION DONGUILA
Go there and contact
You can stop at the monastery of Notre-Dame-des-Anges where the community of the clares is located, at the exit of the village (large sign on your left). The monastery at the top of the hill enjoys superb views and well maintained gardens. And, as elsewhere, sisters make excellent jams. Arrive at Ntoum, turn right at the intersection just before the petrol station Mobil. The road has been paved, but requires skilful driving to slip between the poule. After the railway, at the intersection, take the path slightly left in the named "Cement" area. By always continuing straight and, after having gone through some kilometres of latérite piste, lined with small wooden houses in a well-maintained nature, you will reach the Donguila mission. The mission dominates the estuary. Below, mangroves cross the edge of the water. The Saint Paul de Donguila mission is one of the best preserved in Gabon. By entering left, the church, restored between has kept beautiful pieces of origin: tabernacles, pupitre and wooden altars worked at the time. The wooden ceilings and the very form of the building were modified to enlarge the church, initially in cross form. In 1878, the congregation of the spiritains had settled there. The remains of the first wooden and stone constructions can still be seen, while concrete buildings expanded the area in 1930. The catechesis Placide Kombila will welcome you warmly and can accompany you for a guided tour of the places. The visit is rather short and there is no other significant interest. The boarding school for girls and boys still works and the mission cannot accommodate visitors.
