Forest including several habitat types, riparian forests, herbaceous swamps, treed inselbergs...
Once the scene of violent clashes between two Fang clans (Essamessele and Essansia), and then of fighting during the Second World War, the forest is now protected and managed by WWF. Covering 30,000 km², it includes several types of habitat, from riparian forests to grassy swamps, to treed inselbergs and grassland areas through which elephants pass. It is crossed by four main rivers, with fishy waters. Fishing and artisanal gold prospecting are possible.
