ST. LOUIS CATHEDRAL
This remarkably well-preserved cathedral is one of the oldest in Gabon
Built between 1926 and 1928, the cathedral is the oldest church in Port-Gentil and one of the oldest in Gabon. It is the seat of the city's diocese. Remarkably well preserved, it borrows from the Romanesque style - adapted to the country - the most characteristics. The interior is very simple, with wood and stone. At the entrance stands a Saint Louis carved in stone, the work of Réal Del Sarte. In the pleasant garden that surrounds the cathedral, one can come to walk or meditate: an imposing statue of Mary collects the prayers.
