SOUTHERN HOTEL
Charming hotel in Covington, the Southern decorated and furnished in a style described as missionary, the place is downright superb
Opened in 1907, this charming hotel is deeply embedded in Covington's history. Closed in 1960 and then housing both a pharmacy and government offices, it reopened with great fanfare in 2014. While keeping a certain spirit of the time, the Southern is decorated and furnished in a style described as missionary, in reference to the Spaniards who landed as early as the late 18th century to evangelize these new lands. The place is absolutely superb and the attention to detail is evident everywhere. To discover: its new restaurant, The Gloriette, opened in 2022.

Great rum selection and good rum drinks. We enjoyed talked Star Wars with on of the bartenders. The bar is beautiful.
I love classic hotels with porcelain bathrooms, real carpentry, and sophistication. They seem to have a charm and history to them and it makes for a nicer stay, overall. Hotels that feel as though they've been around for a while are always a welcome change from the sterile, cool character of a modern property. Was only there for a short time, but long enough to wholeheaetedly recommend.
