Museum dedicated entirely to slavery and African American freedom in Donaldsonville.
This museum is entirely dedicated to slavery but also to the freedom of African-Americans. Its exhibits include the lucrative slave market between 1808 and 1865, African influences on Louisiana cuisine, the rural roots of jazz, black country doctors, popular artists such as Alvin Batiste (a Donaldsonville native), free people of color, Louisiana black inventors, etc. Guided bike tours are also available.
