MIKE THE TIGER'S HABITAT
Visit "Mike VII", the living tiger and mascot of LSU's Baton Rouge varsity team, since 1934.
The LSU varsity team has a rather strange tradition of having a live tiger as its mascot. The tradition dates back to 1934, when a group of LSU coaches and athletic directors took the unusual step of bringing in a young tiger from the Little Rock Zoo. Since then, several generations of furry mascots have succeeded one another at LSU. The tiger was nicknamed Mike in honor of Chellis "Mike" Chambers, one of the former coaches behind the project. Mike can also be seen via a live webcam.
