MAGNOLIA MOUND
Plantation in the French Creole style which is the oldest in Baton Rouge.
This Creole plantation, built around 1791, is the oldest in the area. It has been restored as faithfully as possible, in the French Creole style, to make it a museum. Its walls were built using the "bousillage entre poteaux" method, a mixture of mud and Spanish moss that is dried between wooden beams. A foreman's house, a dovecote, a period kitchen and a vehicle shed are set in a garden of herbs and plants for harvesting. Cooking demonstrations are given from October to May.
