USS KIDD VETERANS MUSEUM
Visit the museum entirely dedicated to American naval history and veterans and discover Admiral Isaac C. Kidd.
The USS KIDD Veterans Museum is divided into three distinct sites, all at the same location on the banks of the Mississippi River. The tour begins with the museum dedicated entirely to American naval history and veterans, especially those from Louisiana who have their own "Hall of Honor" inside the museum. We also learn about Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, recipient of the Medal of Honor, the highest military award in the United States, for whom the destroyer is named. Just outside are the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Plaza and one of the aircraft that participated in two conflicts in Southeast Asia.
Finally comes the USS KIDD, moored just behind the museum. You don't have to be a battleship fanatic or a war movie buff to board thisdestroyer that served in World War II and the Korean War. The tour is self-guided with the help of a detailed map (in French upon request) and you will be able to go to literally every corner of the three floors plus the second platform of the USS KIDD. The torpedo launchers, the dormitories (judge the comfort), the cramped kitchens, the "friendly" toilets, the "luxurious" cabins of the superiors, the control room, etc. Kids - and older kids too - will love it! Plan to wear comfortable clothes and avoid flip-flops to explore, as it is always cramped in such a boat and the ladders are quite steep.
